Coming Soon! New Specialist Disability Accommodation homes - Fully Accessible and High Physical Support SDA
Tiwi is one of two high-quality Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) homes being created in Darwin through an initiative by the Northern Territory Government in partnership with Life Without Barriers.
These will be some of the first purpose-built SDA dwellings constructed for people with disability in the Northern Territory under the provisions of the National Disability Insurance Scheme. They will be ready for occupancy in October 2023.
We are currently seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) for these ideally situated properties.
Onsite overnight and daily living supports will be provided by Life Without Barriers, and residents will require appropriate NDIS funding for these services. Each resident can choose their preferred provider for community participation and other funded services.
Room information
Each homes features three fully accessible bedrooms, all with private, fully accessible ensuite bathrooms. The bedrooms open to private outdoor decks.
House information
Each home features:
• Large, fully accessible kitchen with plenty of bench space and storage.
• Open plan dining and living spaces.
• An additional separated living area.
• Al-fresco covered dining area.
• Double garage and large laundry.
• Landscaped gardens.
Housemates
The home will be available for occupancy in October 2023, ready for new residents to add their own personal touches.
Location information
The house is located in Darwin’s northern suburbs in quiet residential streets. The house offers excellent proximity to services, public transport, retail, and recreational facilities. The home is adjacent to parks and gardens, and near major sporting facilities. Casuarina’s main Shopping Centres are a short journey away via paved footpaths, and the Royal Darwin Hospital and Casuarina Beach are close by.

The home is fully wheelchair accessible.
Current support model

Factors to consider when applying
Life Without Barriers will conduct a screening and suitability assessment to ensure housemates are compatible.
You are aged 18 years or over.
You are eligible for, and able to secure, an appropriate level of NDIS Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) funding.
You have the financial means to pay rent and utilities and are prepared to sign (or for a representative to sign) a service and accommodation agreement.
SDA Relevant Information:
High Physical Support’. Participants with Improved Liveability SDA will be considered.
Under agreement with the Northern Territory Government, Life Without Barriers is the Registered SDA Provider for these dwellings. Reflecting the principles of separation of housing and supports, Life Without Barriers’ National Disability Housing Unit, a separate unit within the organisation established to manage other SDA properties across the country, will act as the SDA Provider.
