"Life Without Barriers involvement in the Child Protection Week in Queensland is synonymous with our strategic priority to impact future generations."

Life Without Barriers is a long-standing member of the Queensland Child Protection Week (QCPW) Committee, which includes more than 30 organisations. Since 2015, Rachael Anderson, Director of Regulatory Affairs & Accreditation, has proudly represented Life Without Barriers on the committee and is currently serving her second year as Chair of the QCPW Committee.

"Life Without Barriers involvement in the Child Protection Week committee in Queensland, where Child Protection Week had its origins, is synonymous with our strategic priority to impact future generations," said Rachael.

"Through our staff, carers and our role on the committee, Life Without Barriers are providing children with the value of being cared for, being loveable and having ‘felt’ safety through collaborative efficacy."

Queensland Child Protection Week 2025 Art Project

Each year, artists design a special craft project to amplify the message that 'Protecting Children is Everybody’s Business'.

Life Without Barriers is a proud sponsor of the 2025 QCPW Art Project, which this year takes inspiration from the lotus flower. Known for its ability to rise from murky waters into something beautiful, the lotus is a powerful symbol of hope, resilience, and transformation echoing the importance of nurturing safe and supportive environments for children so they can thrive.

"Our ongoing sponsorship of the QCPW Art Project supports broader community awareness with the goal of preventing child abuse and neglect and entry into the care system," said Rachael.

As protecting children is a shared responsibility, everyone is encouraged to take part by creating and decorating their own lotus flower in the lead-up to Queensland Child Protection Week in September.

Resources and instructions for participating in the 2025 project are available on the Child Protection Week website.

Child Protection Week Awards

The Child Protection Week Awards will be presented during the official launch of QCPW, recognising individuals and organisations across 11 categories for their outstanding commitment to child protection.

This year, we are honoured to be nominated in the 'Child Safe Organisation Award' category for our continued work through the We Put Children First campaign.

"Life Without Barriers has sustained our commitment to child safety through our evidence-based We Put Children First Campaign, which embeds the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations," said Melinda Clarke, Manager, Child Safe Organisation.

"We're always happy to share our experience and resources with the broader sector, so that we can build capacity across the service system to keep children safe from harm."

In 2021, Life Without Barriers received the Media and Communications Award for our We Put Children First campaign, an initiative focused on preventing child sexual abuse by educating staff, carers, children and the broader community about recognising the difference between acceptable and unacceptable behaviours and understand the importance of speaking up about child safety concerns.

We Put Children First is our commitment to the safety and wellbeing of children. All staff and carers are required to be a part of this commitment, to recognise the difference between acceptable and unacceptable behaviours and understand the importance of speaking up about child safety concerns.

Every day, Life Without Barriers offers support and care to children. We want every one of those children to feel as safe and respected as they should.

Child Protection Week

Each year in the first week of September, Queensland unites to celebrate Queensland Child Protection Week, a time dedicated to promoting the safety, wellbeing, and rights of children and families across the state. The week reinforces the important message that 'protecting children is everybody’s business.'

Now in its 39th year, QCPW is coordinated by the Child Protection Week Committee under 'Act for Kids'. Since its beginning, the campaign has raised awareness of child abuse and neglect, while shining a spotlight on all aspects of child protection; prevention, treatment, education, research, service delivery, and family support.

QCPW also provides a valuable platform to share resources, showcase best practices, and bring together professionals across the sector to exchange ideas and strengthen collective efforts.
