24 September 2020

From 6 to 12 September 2020 Life Without Barriers recognised National Child Protection Week: one of the most important weeks in our calendar.

The theme this year was ‘Putting Children First’, which focussed on prioritising the safety and wellbeing of children; highlighting the means that children need to feel safe and loved; be connected to their family and culture; play; have a say in decisions that affect them; and access to essentials such as food, shelter, education and healthcare.  The theme is very close to our heart – at Life Without Barriers we live by our ethos of We Put Children First, and recognised this with daily online activities where our staff and carers could listen, learn and contribute through a range of presentations and facilitated webinars  and panel discussions. Session themes included:

  • Culture and Identity

  • Family and Community

  • Talking about Safety

  • Supporting Transitions

All the sessions were recorded for viewing later by Life Without Barriers staff and carers. If you would like watch copy of a recording, please email: Staff: CYFpractice@lwb.org.au Carers: lwbcarers@lwb.org.au

'We Put Children First' —Understanding Harmful Sexual Behaviour

As part of National Child Protection Week, Life Without Barriers launched 'We Put Children First' - Understanding Harmful Sexual Behaviour.  We know talking about child sexual abuse can help keep children safe. Life Without Barriers has built on our We Put Children First campaign each year, to strengthen our capacity to protect the children and young people we support from child sexual abuse, and to respond appropriately if we’re concerned.
