This year’s NAIDOC Week theme, ‘For Our Elders’, honours the role Elders played, and continue to play, in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and families.

NAIDOC Week celebrations will be held across Australia to celebrate the history, cultures, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples that have been made possible by Elders from generation to generation.

Don’t miss your opportunity to participate in something enriching and special near you. Show your support and get to know your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and pay your respects to their Elders at the following activities and events held across the country.

Shellharbour NAIDOC stall

Kiray Putjung Aboriginal Corporation NAIDOC Family Fun Day

Come along for a great day out on Cessnock, the Traditional Lands of the Wonnarua people, the Awabakal people and the Darkinjung people. There will be weaving workshops, entertainment, an Elders marquee and market stalls where the Life Without Barriers’ Cultural team will be sharing a stall with Aunty Sue and Aunty Cathy.

Northern Territory

2023 NAIDOC Runway

Come visit the Life Without Barriers marquee at the 2023 NAIDOC Runway, an event to acknowledge and celebrate our NTPS Elders (living legends)! Hosted by the Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet, the NAIDOC Runway event will showcase the central role our Elders play in our communities and families, with Elders from NTG agencies modelling contemporary Indigenous fashion, their agency's uniform, or a local Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation's uniform.

Redlands Coast NAIDOC Cultural Celebration 2023

Come along to the free Redlands Coast NAIDOC Cultural Celebration, showcasing local Quandamooka contemporary and traditional music, dancing and didgeridoo, as well as a smoking ceremony, cultural demonstrations, market stalls, weaving workshops and kids’ activities.

NAIDOC Family Fun Day Murray Bridge

Celebrate NAIDOC Week alongside Life Without Barriers Living Arts team and attend the Murray Bridge NAIDOC Family Fun Day. There will be fun activities and entertainment for the whole family.

NAIDOC in the Mall

Celebrate under the Gawler Place Canopy in Rundle Mall with an official Kaurna Welcome to Country Ceremony and Smoking Ceremony, followed by the unveiling of this year's artwork by Aboriginal artist Caitlyn Davies-Plummer of Dustin Koa Art. Following this, enjoy an exciting and immersive schedule of live entertainment and activities for the whole family. Don't forget to say hello to our Living Arts team, who will have a stall at this event and will be running a “Language into Action” activity, where attendees are invited to learn phrases and animal names in language and decorate puppets to create their own stories incorporating the language they have learned.

The Family Fun Day will kick into action at Rotary Park with dance, music, cultural activities and free food. Make sure you visit the Living Art team’s stall to take part in free fun craft activities.
