Wyndham Youth Aboriginal Corporation take home the Life Without Barriers Organisational Achievement Award (Small) at the WA Youth Awards
Life Without Barriers would like to congratulate all the winners of the WA Youth Awards for 2019, but in particular we would like to recognise the Wyndham Youth Aboriginal Corporation for winning the LWB Organisational Achievement Award for a small organisation. Life Without Barriers is proud to sponsor this award and be part of promoting such an inspiring organisation.
The Wyndham Youth Aboriginal Corporation is a not-for-profit community-based organisation consisting of one representative from each of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family groups. Its mission is to improve the well-being of local Aboriginal young people. Their vision is that young people are healthy and feel empowered and capable in their chosen endeavours.
Since first opening in April 2018, WYAC has transitioned from a 6-month pilot program with no confirmed ongoing funding to a medium-sized Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation with multiple income streams. It developed the Wyndham Youth Wellbeing Survey in late-2018 and has rolled it out twice, as a way of tracking current status and improvements. It has also developed and is now delivering a trauma and alcohol and other drugs-informed case management program for young people aged 8-18.
The WA Youth Awards were established in 1999 by the Youth Affairs Council of WA to recognise young Western Australians aged 12 to 25 years for their achievements and contributions to the community. We are thrilled to be able to support young people who are committed to their community, helping others and thinking outside of the box.
