In exciting news, One Vision Productions have launched their app, MPOWER, which includes the The Sexual Safety Series. It’s an app designed for young people struggling with their mental health or looking for inspiration in life.
Life Without Barriers worked with One Vision Productions to develop the series, which was reviewed by members of NAPCAN Youth Speak Out. The videos are engaging and provide age-appropriate, accurate information about safe and respectful relationships
The Sexual Safety Series is a series of videos for young people that aim to help prevent sexual abuse and sexual assault. Life Without Barriers developed the Sexual Safety Series as part of our ongoing commitment to the safety of children and young people.
We’re proud to see the videos included in the MPOWER app, alongside a range of creative, supportive and therapeutic tools and information to support positive life choices for young people.
“Its exciting that these videos are finding a new audience," said Melinda Clarke, Manager Child Safe Organisation.
"Providing accurate information to young people about safe and respectful relationships is essential for keeping young people safe in real life and online.”
We know that when children and young people know the difference between appropriate and inappropriate sexual behaviour this is a key protective factor against sexual abuse.
As for the six-part series, you can watch the videos now! Click each video below or head to the 'The sexual safety series' playlist on YouTube to save the videos for later.
1. Respectful intimate relationships: knowing what respect in relationships looks and feels like.
2. Consent: Understanding the importance of consent – it’s freely given, reversible, informed, enthusiastic and specific!
3. Sexual abuse and sexual assault: Know what it is, and what you can do if it happens to you.
4. Intimate images: All about sending and receiving intimate images – there’s a lot to think about!
5. Sexual exploitation: Expecting sex in exchange for something – yes, it happens.
6. About porn: It can seem exciting, but it’s important to understand that it’s not real sex.
It is important to talk directly with children and young people about sexual safety. We know that these talks can sometimes be hard to have, so this new resource is a great tool to support these conversations.
These videos are a great resource and can be used in group settings or with individual young people to help kick-start conversations about safety in relationships and online.
We thank the auDA Foundation for the grant which funded the production of the videos.
