How we're supporting people in our aged care services during COVID-19

19 October 2020

This page provides information for people in our Aged Care services, and their family members, about how we’re responding to the coronavirus pandemic.

Over the past few months we have all been faced with big changes to the way we live and interact with others. Suddenly, routines and practices that were part of our everyday life have been ruled out or modified.

Fortunately, Life Without Barriers Aged Care services are still running during the coronavirus pandemic and current Victorian restrictions as they are an essential service.

The Life Without Barriers team continue to be here for you, and we’ve adapted our ways of working to ensure we are meeting your changing needs and lifestyle.

How we are supporting you

Life Without Barriers remains committed to supporting you, and every other person who chooses our Aged Care services during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. As your service provider, we understand just how important it is to have the choice to continue your support, and to do so with confidence that we are following all the right measures to keep you safe.

So that we can continue to deliver the support you choose, we are making some adjustments to how we do things in order to protect your health and wellbeing. This means that the staff who support you are practising the highest hygiene and cleaning standards, as well as following advice from the Australian Government around access to facilities and social distancing, where possible.

Visitor restrictions in our Aged Care Services

We are taking the necessary precautions to protect the health and safety of our staff and every person who trusts us to provide Aged Care services.

To ensure people remain safe, we are seeking the support of the communities and partners we work with. Please do not visit our Life Without Barriers properties unless it is essential to service delivery or the wellbeing of people we support. If your visit is essential, remember to follow the Australian Government’s advice, such as staying two feet away where possible, practicing good hand hygiene, using hand sanitiser, and avoiding handshakes. If you feel unwell, please stay home. Thank you for your cooperation and helping us look after the people we support, across Australia.

Services we are adapting

We have adapted some home care services to ensure you can still receive appropriate support to meet your needs within the current environment. All of the below services are offered within the Government’s guidelines for physical distancing and safe interactions.

Social Outings

We know social interaction is so important and where this isn't physically possible we will work to set up video calls to your family or friends.

Although restrictions around grocery shopping have now eased, we appreciate you may be hesitant to go to the supermarket or complete other shopping during this time. We can do your grocery, medical or other essential item shopping for you and can either bring it inside and unpack it for you or drop it off contact free.

Welfare Checks

If you are seeing less of other people, we recommend having a Home Care worker pop by to check on your welfare from time to time. You may also wish to order a personal safety alarm or additional mobility equipment.

Health Care Services

Health care and therapeutic services (e.g. pastoral care, psychology, counselling, dietetics, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and podiatry) continue to operate across Victoria and we can continue to support you to access these services.

Services available as normal

These services remain available as normal but with a greater emphasis on health, hygiene and safety practices. Your Home Care worker will wear extra PPE such as eye protection, face mask and gloves.
