Like many Australians, as we watch the distressing scenes from Afghanistan, our hearts break for Afghani people across the globe.
Life Without Barriers supports hundreds of people seeking asylum and refugee status, many from war-torn countries such as Afghanistan. We cannot imagine how devastating these scenes must be for those witnessing their homeland under siege.
The international community is beholding the impact of the current situation on the fundamental human rights of vulnerable citizens. From a place of peace, we state that we can never condone power sought through oppression, injustice, and persecution.
We stand with our Afghan community and join hundreds of organisations, businesses and community groups who are embracing calls for international community to offer immediate protection, safety and support for people fleeing Afghanistan.
The core purpose of Life Without Barriers is to partner with people to change lives for the better. What unites us are the rights and personal freedoms we all enjoy as human beings; the right to self-determination, the right to be valued and respected, and the right to personal freedom.
At this critical time and as a leading social purpose organisation, we reaffirm our commitment to upholding human rights and we advocate to care for people in need of safety and protection and for the continued support of our vulnerable communities.
