Life Without Barriers applauds the release of the Federal Government’s National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Plan and its focus on opportunities within the not-for-profit sector.
The organisation recognises the extraordinary potential for AI to bolster the essential care sector workforce and drive greater impact for people and communities across Australia.
Chief Executive of Life Without Barriers, Claire Robbs, said the plan provides a clear framework for harnessing AI responsibly and ethically to enhance social services while recognising there are roles which must continue to be led by people.
“We commend the Federal Government for prioritising innovation while ensuring safeguards are in place,” Ms Robbs said.
“AI offers enormous opportunities to improve accessibility, streamline processes, and deliver personalised support – but it must always be guided by human-centred principles.
“We are already seeing incredible innovation in the not-for-profit sector – born from the expertise of our workforce and partnerships, and this plan provides a great platform for harnessing the opportunities of AI in a responsible way.
Life Without Barriers emphasised that the success of the National AI Plan will depend on collaboration between government, technology providers, and social purpose organisations to ensure AI solutions are inclusive and equitable. It further offered considerations on regulations, stating that while regulatory oversight is important, it must be designed in partnership with the care sector and its workforce.
“We look forward to working with partners to explore how AI can strengthen outcomes for people we support, while maintaining trust and transparency,” Ms Robbs added.
