Voices in Innovation - Reshaping Care Models
Voices of Innovation: Reshaping Care Models outlines a strategic initiative led by Life Without Barriers (LWB) to reimagine and redesign out-of-home care (OOHC) models across Australia. In response to sector-wide challenges—including a decline in foster care availability and increased reliance on residential placements—LWB has taken a leadership role in exploring innovative, family-based care solutions that better meet the needs of children, young people, and their families.
This initiative, delivered in partnership with Lumenia, engaged a wide range of stakeholders through innovation workshops, interviews with national and international experts, and a review of current literature. The process surfaced key themes and prototype models that reflect contemporary, evidence-informed approaches to care—such as strengthening family relationships, enhancing carer support, embedding cultural and community partnerships, and empowering children and young people.
This document -Reshaping Care Models - Voices in Innovation captures the insights and outcomes of that process and sets the foundation for the next phase of prototype development and implementation. It reflects LWB’s commitment to continuous improvement, sector collaboration, and placing children and families at the centre of care.
