How do children come into care?
Child protection and out of home care systems across Australia are managed separately by each state or territory, and whilst there are some differences in the laws that govern these systems, and regulations that guide things like carer criteria, there are a lot of similarities around how these systems respond to alerts about harmful situations and provide for the safety of children and young people.
