Foster care standards and children's rights

All states in Australia have developed standards of care for children in care based on the National Standards for Out of Home Care. Most states also have developed roles and responsibilities for foster carers, and a Charter of Rights for children in care.

In NSW there are also Principles for Child Safe Organisations.

These documents are designed to promote consistent quality care for children. We will provide you with information about standards of care in your state, roles and responsibilities for carers and the Charter of Rights for children in care.
