Cultural respect

Cultural respect is

  • Shared respect
  • Achieved through providing a safe environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families, where cultural differences are respected
  • Services that do not compromise the cultural rights, practices, values and expectations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Upholding the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to maintain, protect and develop their culture, whilst supporting the safety, well-being and life opportunities of children

It is critical that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children know, value and feel pride in their culture.
