Chris Chippendale, the LWB Executive Lead for Disability took to the stage to present on increasing employment opportunities for those with disability, and using the NDIS as a tool to see this happen.
"The NDIS is not an outcome in itself, it is merely a tool that provides the opportunity to have a go at community life in a substantial way," said Chris.
"In the same way that Medicare, for example, is a process for facilitating access to health care that enables our health needs to be met. But, Medicare is not an outcome in itself. Medicare enables us to get better and to stay well - so that we can then do other things - things that we want and choose to do."
"You can have all the education you want, early intervention services, family supports and other programs, but if you want to really participate and have opportunities – people need jobs. Not just a job, but a good job. One that is meaningful and satisfying."
