Carer learning pathways

At Life Without Barriers family-based care is about providing a safe and supportive home for children who may need time away from their family to heal and grow. We are dedicated to supporting our carer community to provide quality care and deliver positive outcomes for children and young people.

Foster and Kinship Carers are recognised as an essential part of our team and through access to ongoing learning and development opportunities, carers can acquire and strengthen the knowledge needed to provide care in the best interests of children, inclusive of their families.

Children need carers who are open to learning. The need to keep learning would have been discussed during your carer assessment. As an approved carer you are expected to regularly engage in learning activities. Talk to your care team for more information.

What is myLearning?

myLearning is a learning and development system for Life Without Barriers staff and carers to access online training and resources.. It can be accessed any time, is easy to use and allows you to learn at your own pace.

We have developed carer training based on carer feedback - training that is flexible, timely and tailored to individual circumstances.

There are a number of modules and resources are available for carers to use, including (but not limited to):

  • Introduction to the CARE & TCI frameworks
  • Loss and Grief
  • Going Home - reuniting children and families
  • Family Involved
  • Creating Safety and Comfort through Routines and Rituals
  • Understanding & Supporting Teenagers
  • Understanding Suicidal Behaviour

“…how fantastic! It's been so difficult to find training dates around work commitments. I'm looking forward to an on-line option.”
