Carol Peltola has been a leader in the development and provision of services to improve the lives of the most vulnerable children and families in Australia. For more than 30 years, Carol has worked across the country – Queensland, New South Wales, Western Australia and the Northern Territory – making a significant difference in the lives of children and families at risk. The Life Without Barriers Carol Peltola Children's Research Fund has been established to further Carol life's work.
The purpose of the fund is to enable research which builds knowledge and evidence in service delivery for vulnerable children and families. Carol’s work with Aboriginal children will also be recognised in the funds’ activities. The research will be from the child's perspective. There is very little research in this domain currently, and Carol's view is that the experiences of children can and should influence the practice of child and family services.
The Life Without Barriers Carol Peltola Children's Research Fund has been established under the auspices of Life Without Barriers. Carol has a long association with and continues to be on the Board of Life Without Barriers.
The first project of the Research Fund is a partnership between Life Without Barriers and Griffith University to establish a Chair in the School of Social Work and Human Services. Griffith University will fund half of the Chair. The Chair will lead child-focused research into effective support of vulnerable children and families from the child’s perspective.
